Domain Names

What Is a ‘Domain Name’?
Because the Internet is based on IP addresses (208.77.188.166), a Domain Name converts the computer-readable IP addresses into a human-readable name (example.com).

Each domain name has a suffix called the top-level domain. There are a limited number of predefined suffixes. The most common are: .com – commercial business; .net – Network organizations; .org – Organizations (nonprofit).

For the past 4 years, I’ve used GoDaddy to purchase my domain names and I highly recommend them. Their Domain Manager is so easy to use!

While I love using GoDaddy for my domain names, I do not recommend them for hosting. Basically the control panel they provide is hard to navigate and is not user friendly. I recommend HostGator – click here for why.
